Working fully remote AND staying close to your colleagues? This can seem like two ends of a spectrum for some teams.

In the past year I have been thinking a lot about how to keep up our team spirit in fun and interesting ways. Even though our design team has regular online touch-points that are very casual, I wanted to introduce something to the team that combines competition with the feeling of human connection.

This is what has triggered me to create the Design Hub Achievements game! It is an online badge collection game, specifically created for us.

Our colleagues can compete in various challenges.

We are interacting a lot on Slack, and have a variety of different topical channels. Members can earn badges by being active in these conversations, and sharing their interests with each other.

There are also other, harder to earn achievements, like doing a presentation, or just going out for dinner with one-another.

Oh, and the whole thing works via a Slack Shortcuts integration, so we can award the achievements super easily to each other! The game is broken up to 3 month seasons, and there are even valuable prizes at the end! We also keep adding badges, so any new interest can be rewarded :)

With the release of iOS 14, Apple introduced Home Screen widgets for iPhone and iPad. As my GAget app was getting outdated in many ways, I decided to do a complete rewrite for iOS, while taking the opportunity to try a new name as well.

After 3 years, I shut down the project with iOS 17, as I simply had no time to update to the new Google Analytics API.

GAget started as a widget for OS X Dashboard. Today it’s the most popular Google Analytics widget for macOS in the App Store. Features include an Overview widget for the most important data, a Real-Time widget for getting real-time visitor information and Alerts for custom event notifications.

It has been my longest running side project, launched in August 2011. It's still very exciting to work on and it even motivated me to learn a whole new programming language to keep it going: read the full story of it.

Most people who go to the gym lack the proper training which can result in injuries. With MoveRite our aim was to help beginners learn the most important weight training exercises with confidence.

It was a huge challenge from a usability perspective, because the amount of information in the app can be overwhelming at first. We had to ease-in the users to the process, to start out slow, but also learn the important parts right away.

When I started this project in 2012 we were aiming to buy a house with my wife. We wanted to be very clear about our money situation so we needed an expense tracker to keep us up to date. Since no apps supported sharing accounts back then I decided to quickly mock up something for the two of us.

Today it's a full featured application for tracking our expenses and income. The responsive web interface is using PHP, and I've even created an Apple Watch app to be able to quickly add some expenses. It can even parse spoken sentences like "3000HUF on food from bankcard".

Ravioli was an experiment in macOS development. I was curious of how to build an application for the macOS menu bar, because I wanted to have a specific feature in GAget that ran in the menu bar (this later turned into GAget Alerts).

I discontinued the development after some time, because I considered the experiment to be successful.

Why do torrent sites have to look like crap? They don't! And by using this plugin, nCore turns into an awesome browsing experience. Not like I actually use this site 😉

For my very first hackathon I wanted to create something useful. Many of my coworkers share a calendar with their significant others, but having to sync the company calendar manually is always a struggle. This problem inspired the creation of Califlower, a Chrome extension that syncs event data from the IBM Verse calendar client to a personal Google Calendar.

Together with Márk Gémesi we had to consider privacy and security issues and at the end we got second place at the company hackathon. 🏆
